Moodboard_Pantone 2016

Pantone this year announced two Colors of the Year for 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity. With an interest in health, wellness, and sustainability, we are seeking interiors and products to help us relax, decompress, and stay calm in our frenzied 24/7 existence. For us at Mohawk Group, these soft pastel colors speak to the resurgence of soothing colors from the past. The desire for these colors is related to the familiar comfort of family and childhood, as well as more peaceful times when life was simpler. These nostalgic colors, however, are used in new ways that are more contemporary than the pastels of our youth. We are seeing pastels in furniture, textiles, building materials, and lighting, as well as fashion and art. Using matte finishes as well as watery treatments makes it look fresh.

According to Pantone, these new pastels also signal an interest in gender bending, where the binary association with blue and pink is being challenged. This color palette relates to our Greater Good trend theme, part of Color and Design Vision for 2015-2016.
