Commercial Carpet Makes the Finish Line

Posted by in Discover, Meet Mohawk |

Why use commercial carpet for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship?

We like to think that pushing the limits in the flooring industry is challenging. Pushing the limits in athleticism is truly epic. That’s why when one of the world’s largest endurance races, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, came to us for all of their carpet needs, it was a natural decision – and a finish line match – to support this one-of-a-kind challenge in Chattanooga, Tenn.

At Mohawk Group, we Believe in Better and understand this kind of commitment to excellence. Like our flooring products, it’s this relentless pursuit of durability and outstanding performance that makes it an honor to have these athletes walk (and run) all over us. We were honored to support these amazing athletes and to partner with a world-class name in sports, health and fitness.

It wasn’t just that we provided carpet at the finish line. For every elite athlete – more than 4,000 – we were able to provide our Spectrum V30 carpet throughout every part of the race so that through each transition, they never had to touch their bare feet on the hot pavement, rocks or tree roots.

The finish line is a huge part of IRONMAN. After these athletes conquer 70.3 miles of swimming, biking and running, they see that finish line, and that finish line symbolizes the culmination of all of their hard work. Those last few hundred feet of running down our Durkan Synthesis Ripple PDI with IRONMAN 70.3 and Mohawk logos just screams “YOU’VE COMPLETED AND YOU’RE A WORLD CHAMPION!”

How’s that for pushing limits?

The world’s leading athletes compete in one of the toughest swim, bike and run triathlons during the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship competition, Sept. 9-10, 2017, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Mohawk Industries supplied the carpeting for the finish line and all transition areas.

More than just the finish line, it’s about the entire race! Mohawk employees volunteered to staff one of the aid stations along the race course.
